“The OM Alfresco” with Centraide enlivens the neighborhoods

Neighbourhood life
August 15, 2024 •  By Centraide

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Centraide partnered with the Orchestre Métropolitain (OM) to present three concerts from The OM Alfresco series in three Montreal neighborhoods: Saint-Léonard, Lachine, and Montréal-Nord. These events aimed to make classical music accessible to everyone and promote social and cultural inclusion. Unfortunately, the concert scheduled in Lachine had to be canceled due to weather conditions.

Hosted by Vanessa Destiné and conducted by Naomi Woo, these concerts took the audience on a musical journey around the world. The collaboration with Centraide and the community agencies in its network helped reach a new audience, bringing together families and neighbors in a local park for an unforgettable summer evening.

The “Ateliers de l’apprenti spectateur” held before each concert were a great success. 161 children aged 3 to 10, along with their parents, participated in these free workshops organized by the OM’s education team. It seems that parents learned as much as their children about the instruments of the symphony orchestra, the movements of the conductor, and the listening skills that help to better appreciate the concert.

Watch this video that captures the highlights of these concerts.
