Since 2010, Anait Aleksanian has headed up the Centre d’appui aux communautés immigrantes (CACI) in Ahuntsic-Cartierville. After moving to Quebec in the late 1990s, she fully dedicated herself to helping newcomers. The CACI provides support to nearly 4,000 people every year who come from all over the world. The agency helps them find housing and jobs and integrate into Quebec society.

In honour of our 50th anniversary, Anait told us what Centraide means to her.

Support that makes all the difference

On behalf of the CACI, I want to wish Centraide of Greater Montreal a very happy 50th anniversary.

Our partnership with Centraide has been vitally important for our agency since its very start in April 1993, as Centraide was one of the CACI’s founding members.

Since the beginning, the CACI has always counted on Centraide’s constant support to carry out its mission to help newcomers and refugees integrate into Quebec society. We are particularly grateful for Centraide’s role as an essential partner when we took in Syrian refugees in 2015 and 2018. Thanks to its assistance, the CACI was able to sponsor over 3,500 refugees and help them settle in their new country. This was a major contribution to their successful integration into Quebec society.

More recently in 2022-2023, Centraide provided essential support to allow the CACI to offer services to asylum seekers.

As these individuals are not eligible for government programs because of their status, Centraide’s financial allocation helped meet the needs of these vulnerable people.

The CACI is deeply grateful for Centraide’s support over the past 30 years and is particularly proud to be its partner.

Happy 50th anniversary to Centraide, and we look forward to working together on many projects in the years to come!
