Keys to collaborating with Centraide
The agency and community-investment evaluation processes are supported by skilled volunteers who represent the community and are assisted by Centraide’s social development team.

How do your donations get where they need to go?
Each agency is evaluated based on the following basic principles:
- Has knowledge of the priority social issues and the needs and characteristics of the populations in its community and specifically of historically marginalized groups.
- Responds to current and emerging needs by offering activities that are in line with its mission and that address the territory’s challenges.
- Adapts its activities to meet current and emerging needs.
- Applies the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion to its vision and strategic objectives.
- Implements strategies to help members of its community and specifically the most vulnerable populations and those that have been historically marginalized.
- Develops activities and strategies to increase people’s independence and empowerment while fostering relationships of mutual support.
- Promotes a sense of belonging and an experience of civic engagement.
- In close collaboration with the people and communities concerned, develops precise objectives and identifies the expected results of its activities.
- Establishes an inclusive culture of evaluation that is focused on learning.
- Communicates its results and lessons learned to its community and partners using various channels, such as annual reports, publications, meetings, forums, or any other appropriate communication method.
- Is familiar with the social development stakeholders in its community, including those in the private and institutional sectors, as well as with formal and informal collective action mechanisms.
- Has characterized the nature and diversity of its collaborative and partnership relationships with other social development stakeholders.
- Prioritizes and participates in collective mechanisms based on its capacity and resources. Chooses the sites and intensity of its contribution based on strategic objectives.
- Collaborates with Centraide to achieve common goals in the fight against poverty and social exclusion.
- Manages its financial resources responsibly and transparently and implements strategies to ensure these resources are as sustainable as possible over the long term.
- Develops clear and fair policies that are regularly reviewed that govern the working conditions of its staff (employees, volunteers and members).
- Plans its activities efficiently and responsibly to meet the needs of its community while reporting annually to its members.
- Adopts healthy, effective and inclusive governance practices.
- Fosters dynamic community life that encourages the active participation of citizens, including participants, in decision processes.
Other considerations
- The agency’s mission is in line with Centraide’s territorial analyses (or analysis of the social issues in a given territory) and strategic orientations.
- The maximum amount that Centraide can invest within a single community while fairly allocating its investments throughout Greater Montreal.
