is committed to protecting your privacy.
Last update: September 15, 2023.
This policy concerns you and describes how we collect, use, communicate and protect your personal information on our website (the Site) and as part of our charitable activities. It also explains how you can exercise your rights, for example, to access or correct your information.
When you give us personal information via our website or any other document or form used to collect personal information for our activities, we assume that you are agreeing to this information being handled in the manner described in this policy. However, we may ask you to provide express agreement in certain cases.
What is described in this policy?
This Privacy Policy applies solely to our Site and to our charitable activities.
This policy does not apply to staff or volunteer management practices or to third-party sites, products or services. We are not responsible for the practices of third parties and encourage you to review their privacy policies before using their sites, products or services.
Our Site is not intended for minors and we do not voluntarily collect personal information from minors. If you are under the age of consent as per the laws governing your place of residence, please do not give us any personal information without the express consent of a parent or guardian.
If you are a parent or guardian and you know that your children have provided us with personal information, please get in touch with us at the contact information in the Contact us section.
We collect, use, disclose and keep your personal information only with your consent or as authorized by law. If you give us personal information about another person, you are responsible for obtaining that person’s consent to do so.
How (i.e. the manner in which) we obtain your consent depends on things such as the sensitivity of the collected information and the circumstances in which it is collected. Your consent may be either expressed or implied depending on the circumstances and the sensitivity of the personal information in question. If you decide to provide us with personal information, we assume that you are consenting to the collection, use and communication of your personal information as described in this policy.
If we want to use your personal information for a purpose not explained to you at the time it was collected or that is not set out in the law, we will ask for your consent before using the information for this new purpose.
You may withdraw your consent to the use or communication of your personal information at any time by contacting us at the details provided in the Contact us section.
When you visit our Site or make a donation, we collect personal information about you.
The personal information that we collect is generally in one or more of the following categories:
For donation forms: your first name, last name, email address, mailing address, phone number, donation type and amount, and banking information to complete the donation transaction. Some types of gifts may require additional questions to better define your intentions (for example, a planned gift, a tribute donation for a loved one, or a gift of shares).
For registration forms (for activities, invitations, collaborations or other initiatives or events): your first name, last name, email address and occasionally your postal code or organization.
For enquiries from you: your first name, last name, email address and the information you enter in the required fields. Please do not send us any personal or other types of confidential information that is not required for our activities.
If you interact with us in person, by phone, via email, on social media or through any other method, we may collect the information you give us. We will keep only what is necessary. Please do not send us any personal or other type of confidential information that is not necessary for our activities.
We use your personal information to process your donation, to respond to your requests via our forms and (with your consent) to thank you and inform you about the impact of your donation in the community.
We may send you personalized communications based on your donor profile and any preferences that you share with us.

We will not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. However, we may communicate personal information where permitted or required by law or for the purposes listed in the following section.
We may provide your personal information to our suppliers and partners, such as those in the Centraide United Way Canada network.

If you believe that your interactions with us are no longer secure (for example, if you believe that the security of any information you have provided to us has been compromised), please contact us immediately using the details provided in the Contact us section.
You have rights over your personal information.
We will take the necessary measures to ensure that your personal information is accurate, complete and up-to-date. However, we will not routinely update your personal information and we may require you to update it from time to time as necessary. We may also, reasonably and in good faith, contact you to ensure that the information you have provided us is up to date.
Access and corrections. You may submit a request to us in writing to consult the personal information that we collect, use or communicate about you, and we will provide you with this personal information as permitted by law. You may also contest the accuracy or completeness of your personal information. If you can demonstrate that the personal information we have about you is inaccurate or incomplete, we will modify it as per your instructions.
Withdrawal of your consent. You may withdraw your consent to our use or communication of your personal information. In some cases, withdrawing your consent may mean that we can no longer process your donation or allow you to access certain features of our Site. If this is the case, we will inform you at the time we collect your personal information.
In some circumstances, you also have other rights, such as:
Termination of disclosure. In some cases, you may also request that personal information held about you no longer be disclosed.
To learn more about your rights, contact us or visit the website of the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
Your personal information is hosted by CGM in Canada but may be shared with third parties located outside Canada.
Although we aim to process your personal information in Quebec, it may be hosted outside Quebec and processed in any country/state/province where our suppliers are located. Your personal information may therefore be shared in countries other than your country or province of residence, and these jurisdictions may have different confidentiality rules. If this information is stored outside Quebec, we will ensure that it is adequately protected, for example (and if necessary), by conducting a privacy impact assessment.
The policy is current as of the date shown at the top of the page.
We may change this policy from time to time. When we modify it, the changes take effect immediately as soon as the notice of modification is made available to you on our Site.
